How To Make Beats With FL Studio

How to Make Beats with FL Studio

I’m seeing a lot of people asking questions on how to make beats.

Well, first you need the tools.

FL Studio has to be the handiest tool for making beats as well as entire songs as it’s a fully fledged DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). I’ve been working with FL Studio for almost a decade now, and I gotta say, it’s THE tool. ?

Second, you need a bunch of good drum samples: kick drums, claps, hi-hats, snares and some percussion sounds. You can find a lot of drum samples online for free as well as from quality commercial libraries.

If you are going to go the free route, just know that you are going to have to do a lot of digging and curating. Most free sample packs are riddled with redundancies and cheap filler sounds.

Third, you need a little bit of know how of FL Studio and you’re all set.

In this short and straightforward video, I show you how easy it is to make a beat with FL Studio. This is just to get you started so the example beat I’m creating here is not the coolest one.

  1. Hey, when I clone the first pattern, and attempt to “Make Unique” the second pattern, the option to “Make Unique” is not available. It won’t let me click the option. Any suggestions? I’m running FL9

    • Hi Denis,

That’s strange. Does the “Make Unique” appear at all in the popup list or is it just greyed out? What FL Studio version are you using? Producer, Express or Fruity edition and what version number? (you can check that via Help -> About… )

      Let me know.

    • Ok, I snooped around and it’s probaply disabled due the Demo version limitations. It’s some how involved into saving/reloading and those are not available in FL Studio demo. In full version it’s fully functional.

      Sorry, mate.

      • what FL studio version are you working at? And you buy it on the imagine-line website? Do you have any other way to make unique in the demo version?

        • Hi!

I’m currently using FL Studio 11.0.4 and I bought it from the Image-Line webshop yeah.

As far as I know, there’s no alternative way to make unique in the demo, sorry.
